My writing focuses on contemporary art and the people who shape it.

I write about artists, artistic practices, books, exhibitions or any context in which art is made, shown and circulated. These texts sit between observation, analysis and reflection. They are informed by close proximity to artists and institutions, and by long-term engagement with the art world, its structures, tensions and contradictions.

Through my writing, I aim to bring clarity, offer perspective and occasionally challenge how we look at art and how the art world functions.

NO TITLE

This is the first article of a new series where I regularly write about a work of art from my own collection. It will give you an insight in what and how I collect and hopefully inspire you to do so as well.  I will always add something a bit larger: in this article for… read moreNO TITLE

    NEW HAPPY YEAR

Not reflecting on the year that past. Rather grateful for how this one started and gently looking ahead.
FIRST: I need to start with last night, which led us into this new year. We had dinner with friends, who like my husband and I believe in the joy of being together without the fuss of it having to be the best night of the year because it so happens to be New Year’s eve.

Off the List, Ahead of the Game

The Flemish government has reviewed and redesigned the art scene with the biggest impact for M HKA (Antwerp). The reasoning behind this article is that I only see opinions and complaints that go in one direction, and it’s not how I see it. I can’t pretend to be an active player in the art scene,… read moreOff the List, Ahead of the Game

        (sm)ART

Last week I was in London to see Nicole Wassall’s show RETROSPECTIVELY FINDING THE LIGHT and I am very eager to introduce you to her work. Storyteller Nicole is a storyteller and she tells with wit, elegance and skill. The themes she handles are slightly uncomfortable: equality, the passing of time, perfection, golden cages,… Quite… read more(sm)ART

My work is part of the ONBOARDS BIENNALE 2025. etymology of a word Like me, you probably think the word history has nothing to do with him or her? Well, I only found out writing this piece (eyeroll), that it sort of does! Here’s what I found: The very origin of the word is the old… read moreherstory

            GROTESQUE INSIGHT

I will start with the conclusion: go see KHORÓS at Bozar, it’s an interesting overview of Berlinde De Bruyckere’s work, a major Belgian female artist in a fabulous art institute. short story long Why did it take me four months to write about KHORÓS, the Berlinde De Bruyckere exhibit at Bozar that I saw on… read moreGROTESQUE INSIGHT

              A REFLECTION ON AUTHENTICITY

Sometimes, I know I want to write about an exhibit before I see it. It was the case with AImagine – Photography and generative images at Hangar (Brussels). Artificial Intelligence (AI) intrigues, fascinates and scares me. Quite a thing! I did some research before going to the show in order to be prepared to formulate a response… read moreA REFLECTION ON AUTHENTICITY

                I SEE YOU

I’ll get straight to the point: When We See Us is a MAJOR exhibition! And I LOVED IT. Why I think it’s so grand? I have NEVER seen an exhibition of this scale with only Black artists. This is huge and I applaud the curators for creating it and Bozar for hosting it. (I will stop the… read moreI SEE YOU

                  ON THREAD

At this moment in time, I think thread is the most versatile medium in art. BAM. I said it. Throughout history the use of thread, sewing, fabric etc remained womanly business that beyond practical utility, could, at its best, be seen as craft. With some luck excellent craftsmanship (“man”, eye-roll). Definitely not art, let alone… read moreON THREAD
