Hi, my name is Alexia Struye.
I’m based in Antwerp and move through the art world in many roles: writer, mentor, sparring partner, artist, project manager and speaker. Not out of indecision, but out of curiosity.
Before fully committing to the arts, I spent several years in a corporate environment. It taught me how to navigate complexity, manage responsibility and get things done without unnecessary noise. I don’t need the front stage to be effective, I’m often happiest helping things take shape from just offstage.
My way of thinking is fast and associative. I’m good at noticing patterns where others might not look, seeing different sides of a story and drawing lines between seemingly separate points. I have a tendency to bring things together, connecting people and ideas.
I am good at asking (uncomfortable) questions, challenging assumptions and turning loose conversations into something with direction. I love being a catalyst: activating ideas, opening perspectives and creating opportunities.
Repetition bores me, learning doesn’t. I’m energised by variety and unfamiliar terrain. Anything I haven’t done before has my attention: a new format, a new collaboration, a new context. Definitely optimistic by default.
I value integrity, curiosity and generosity and I care about doing work that moves things forward for people, ideas and contexts.
A recurring thread in my work is advocating for women artists and supporting women creators and entrepreneurs (never to the exclusion of others), helping them grow, be seen and thrive. By offering perspective, support and visibility, I help others build with confidence and intention.
Not often enough, I make time to create art. I use photography as a way of drawing, working with images I shoot and sometimes alter, as well as creating collages with vintage photographic material. Always guided by an aesthetically pleasing result, nevertheless challenging thought.
